Headlamp/Fog relay
There is plenty of info on here about upgrading the headlamp to have a modern relay. And I have taken the info on board. But I didn't want the modern relays to show. I want the wiring system to look stock, and I will have a new wiring loom made so I can have my modern inputs incorporated.
So, here is my solution. This is for a a pair of fog lamps; Gutted a NOS headlamp dimmer, and fitted inside a Bosch modern relay. The Bosch relay is glued inside. With the cover back on underneath, you would never know... All except 1 wire was kept as its a thick gauge for the power that will go through, the ground was a bit thin and changed.
Now to make a start on the headlamp relays

Re: Headlamp/Fog relay
There is also a miniature 12V relay available designed as a surface mount PCB that will fit inside the smaller relay cans.

'PCB version of standard 30A horn type relay.Whilst designed for auto horns, this relay is ideal for any high current application."

Nissanman, just trying to help.

Re: Headlamp/Fog relay
What year is your roadster if you have or is this for the Silvia. That appears to be a 69-70 relay. Does the Silvia use the later relay?
You are going to pull power directly from the battery and use a switch to trigger the power?

Re: Headlamp/Fog relay
Curtis,
Yes for the Silvia. No, the Silvia doesn't use this relay, nor has it any fog lamps (but the wires are in the original loom). As long as it looks like it should belong there. Will use the original headlamp relay for the Silvia for the headlamps (well a period aftermarket one unless I can massage the metal canister to make the relay fit).
Yes, power from the battery with an inline fuse and a switch to power. Relay I am using has 2 87 outlets, one for each lamp.

Re: Headlamp/Fog relay
Haven't seen one with two 87. 6 pin?
The relay in your photo shows a standard 4 pin.

Re: Headlamp/Fog relay
Its Bosch part 0332019150 in my picture, which I got easily from Amazon UK, direct from Bosch Automotive. Here it is on Amazon.com for a closer look;Curtis wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 6:59 am Haven't seen one with two 87. 6 pin?

Re: Headlamp/Fog relay
Five pin, terminals are 87 and 87a. One is always on and then goes off and the other comes on when when the relay is powered.
I only buy Temco brand relay here. Made in China just fail. Actual Bosch ones cost more.

Re: Headlamp/Fog relay
This Bosch one is both 87, no 87a. I knew I didn't want or need a 87a.
Price was about £6 so about $7

Re: Headlamp/Fog relay
It's just a 4 pin with an extra terminal jumped. Well that's a first for me. I suppose it has it's purpose like you plan to do. Me, just splice the light feed wires together like the original harness.
