Voltage drop regulator

Post by sevenmilebridge »

Does anyone know if there is a replacement for the regulator that fits on the steering column? I believe that if this part is not working the fuel gauge and temp gauge will not work. I have installed a new sending unit for gas tank and the temp gauge are not working. If anyone has an extra I'll buy it or know of a replacement.

Yes, my advice is to go solid state.
You won't have any issues with that

Please do your own research but this is lifted from an electronic parts catalogue: -
LM 7808 8V 1 Amp TO-220 Fixed Voltage Regulator (for NEGATIVE ground cars).
LM 7908 -8V 1 Amp TO-220 Fixed Voltage Regulator (for POSITIVE ground cars).

The 1A rating of the device is more than enough for the two gauges and no heat sink is necessary on the IC.

Thanks I'm going to try to take apart and fix ground. I actually have two cars doing the same thing one works intermittently

Intermittents are as likely to be from the wiring harnesses and connections to pigtails, sensors and gauges as the regulator itself.

That said, I have gone to an electronic regulator, the variable output voltage on which also permits a degree of gauge adjustment.
