What is this bracket for?

Post by SPL311-25411 »

Does anyone know what this bracket is for? I've seen a race car that had a light there that was lit when the engine was running. Surely, this is something else.

Thank you JT68! Now I understand why the hard fuel line goes that far past the fuel pump.

Is that how the fuel filter set in the bracket? Maybe there are more parts missing that I don't know about. :?

Thats correct. Here's the way the original fuel filter inlet and outlet was orientated.

Ok, so I'm not as dense as I thought. The right angle outlets on the one you linked makes more sense for running hoses to it in that location. What are you guys running, a metal or plastic filter and are you using that bracket or have hidden ones near the tank?

Probably ‘All of the above’ depending on who you ask. If you’re not going for a concours build (lol) it doesn’t really make a difference. Whatever your preference is, is the right answer. As for me, a plastic one works nicely.

I run plastic so I can see how the fuel flows. I run a plastic one used for the 240Z which has one right angle outlet. They are still readily available aftermarket - Wix and Purolator.

Most people don't realize it, but the reason that bracket is 12" above the fuel pump is that after you shut off the engine, gas is trapped in the line to the pump intentionally. That gas keeps the mechanical fuel pump primed for easy starts. Some guys bolt an aftermarket fuel filter down by the frame, sometimes it works ok, other times the pump starves. The original position for the plastic filter is a good one :D .
