maf vs. map
Okay turbo/engine swap peeps, I just came to the realization that I no longer need to use a MAF sensor because my aftermarket ECU has a built-in MAP sensor. I’ve speculated that the SR 20 swap guys are using MAF sensor‘s because they are using a stock ECU. Is there any reason I should use the MAF sensor over the MAP sensor? I’ve read to my eyes and bled about which one is better which one is easier I just wanted to get some input from the guys here. Thank you ahead of time.
Cheers

Re: maf vs. map
I am going with the MAP on my build; the MAP route eases the real estate issue in the passenger front for my SR20 Autech swap. I am running the ECU masters.

Re: maf vs. map
Good question. I used an OEM MAF on my S13 and S14 SR20 with the stock ECU. Both ran great. I switched to speed density with MAP and IAT with a Haltech ECU for my current S15 Autech partly because I didn’t have the original ECU.
My opinion is that the MAF is more precise for temperature and altitude changes when operating close to factory parameters but can get dirty in daily use. The speed density allows more performance mods with software tuning. If you make a lot of performance changes with the MAF system, you MAY need a larger MAF so might lose some of its precise characteristics.
I’m not an expert so these are just from my experience. My MAF is still in my intake because I haven’t gotten around to replacing it with a straight pipe.

Re: maf vs. map
Thanks guys!
I’m leaning map for the ease of mod changes, packaging and aesthetics; and if in the future I need or want to change then fine.
Thanks again

Re: maf vs. map
My vote is also for MAP with IAT. Easier to install, flexibility, tuning, plus MAFs have a higher failure probability vs the other two.

DP;
"plus MAFs have a higher failure probability vs the other two."
Can you back that up with hard facts?

Nope, just an internet forum opinion worth what you paid for it; I encourage you to do your own research.DatsunNoob wrote: Sat Jan 07, 2023 10:48 pm DP;

Re: maf vs. map
I agree DP , MAP s were before most went to MAF for leaner settings , can you still get a MAF For these 35 yrs old engines ? or MAP for that matter , jumping batteries damaged some
