'67.5 SPL311 1600 Roadster Restoration: Let the fun begin!

Spent the morning cleaning the "Middle-Class Garage Goals" shop. Yes, there is a car or two in there somewhere. Every now and then you just need a day to re-assess and check the progress and organization of the restoration. I've been working on the car like a maniac. I would love to finish the car by the fall. That is the goal. Cheers!

Here’s a shot when I bought it, and how well it cleaned up. Car has lots of patina, perhaps a little too much in the paint It took a lot of mechanical work and elbow grease to bring it back to life after spending over 25 years sitting in that shed.

Wow, that is nice! A true barn find for sure. Love those old 911's. The only problem is Singer is buying them all up. Looks nice after you removed all that Richard Rawlings Home Depot Barn Dust.

I did some port matching on the intake and exhaust manifolds and head ports. The aftermarket intake manifold supplied with the Weber carbs (Redline?) is a bit rough on fit and finish. I first squished some kid's putty between the intake manifold and head to get an idea of how far off things were. Required some grinding/porting on the #1 and #4 cylinders on the head and some on the intake itself. Cleaned up the stock exhaust manifold ports. It should flow nicely and I should now be hitting 97 horsepower!

Started to take apart the leaf springs to rebuild them and noticed something odd. There was one leaf spring pad on the top of one side and one on the bottom of the other side. That's all. When I took the car apart I noticed this but didn't think much about it. The new kit from Dean has 4 pads.

Re-assembled the gauges. I broke the glass lens on the tach. Required an unplanned trip to Lowes for some plate glass and a glass cutter tool. Took a few tries but I finally got it sized perfectly. I sandblasted and re-finished the flat dash. Is there anywhere to purchase the rubber rings that were between the dash and the gauges?

In case you are wondering, I'm NOT a highly trained professional, I'm just making this shit up along the way. Using a t-shirt screenprinting infrared flash dryer to cure POR15 high temp coating on the exhaust header. I could probably use the oven inside (my wife would probably hate me for it), but I happened to have the flash dryer from another side project, so why not!
