Hood release Cable Assy differences & alternatives?

Post by sdb8100 »

I have a '69 Roadster I am in the final steps a reassembly. I noticed that there is no factory hood release cable assembly at all! I believe the PO had rigged something.

I've been seeing various offing's from our roadster vendors from early roadsters to 1968. 1969 & 1970 seem to be different, but I don't know the details other than I believe the latch was updated to be 2-stage.

1. Can someone describe the differences or show pictures of the hood release cable assembly in 1969 & 1970 vs. earlier?
2. Do we know if 240Z cable assembly OR other alternatives fit the roadster?

Thanks!

The late 69-70 cable is totally different from 65-early 69. Not the same as 240 or anything else, so unique to 69-70 roadster.

If you have the "two-stage" latch, it is the later style.

We have reproduced the correct cable. Just PM or email. jt

I'll confirm my latch. I didn't think that you had the 69-70 cable? I'll certainly reach out. I'm curious to understand what are the major differences?

Yikes, don't close that hood until you have a working release cable!

Hi sdb8100,
I have a two stage latch for 69/70 that will be for sale. I need to replace the second latch spring. It was replated gold zinc and ran on my car for about six months before I replaced it with one replated clear zinc. Gold zinc is proper but I replated my whole car clear zinc. If interested, I can send you pics. I would sell it for $200 plus $12 flat rate box shipping, which is what I paid for it.

Here are some photos. we'll add a link.

All the details about the late style cable are different which makes it unique to 69-70 roadster. Knob, how the knob attaches, cable length and cable jacket. There is also a fitting and a bracket on the latch end of the cable unique to 69-70. Cheers, jt

As a fail safe, you can also add an actuator and have it pop the hood electronically. I have done this on my rear trunk lid but have not done it yet on the hood. Fairly cheap for the actuator like 30 bucks and an hour to put it in.

Definitely add an emergency release through the grommet hole and hanging down above the accelerator pedal. A piece of heavy weight fishing line or metal leader is good. Just something to pull if anything goes wrong with the primary release.
