Dash mouning bolts- what are they called and who carries them?
Need help in finding these buggers.
1/4-28 by 3/4 length with Phillips hex head, and tapered point.
Any leads on where to get replacements?
Thanks,
Andy B

You have a high window? Is this one of the Datsun decided to keep the SAE bolts on a metric car? They kind of look metric which are available.
As to the pointed end I stuck some dash pad screws in a drill and pointed them on a belt sander.

Yes it's a high windshield SAE car. The points are for centering in the hard to reach holes only, correct?
I did find a few options searching for "Phillips hex head machine screws "

I need these for the low windshield as well. I searched many a store and could not find them.

Re: Dash mouning bolts- what are they called and who carries them?
For my old dash, I replaced the rusted screws with new flat washers, and Philips pan head machine screws, and ground the points myself. When I finally bought a new dash pad from Dean, those pointed screws came with it...

You could always buy a bit longer and grind the end to match the point. McMaster Carr has these minus the point in lots of lengths that should work

They are called cone point screws. Difficult to find, but out there.

Looks like only set screws with cone points. I'll keep looking as I'll need some for my early dash as well. That or the grind your own as mentioned by others Anyone know what the thread is for the early dashes?spl310 wrote: Mon Nov 28, 2022 9:38 am They are called cone point screws. I don't know the threads for the early dashes off hand, but the screws are certainly available in other than set screws - it just takes digging:DAC21 wrote: Mon Nov 28, 2022 1:36 pmLooks like only set screws with cone points. But you don't HAVE to have those screws. They just make it easier.

Re: Dash mouning bolts- what are they called and who carries them?
I believe they are 10-32.
It is so easy to make them. I bought stainless, put two nuts on them tightened against each other. Then in to the drill and used my wenco belt sander. You use the drill so the point comes out even. Round and round it goes.
If I had not had the belt sander I would have just used my right angle grinder with a sanding disc. About 5 minutes per screw.
