Hood Mount broke help!

Post by mwegener111 »

I am on my final assembly after almost 4 years in the restore. I was mounting the hood and the hood mount broke. It looks like it was welded before. I'm looking for suggestions/approaches on how to get this fixed. Any direction would help.

Simply spot weld it back in place. If you can ‘phone a friend’ to help you install the hood afterwards, it will be less likely to break again (often too much stress is placed on the bracket by the loose bolts with just one person trying to attach the hood).

Thanks Kai, there were two of us. The picture doesn't show clearly but it had been welded before. It was rusted under the welds and I think the rust made it weak.

Got it. Even when you do it right, rust always finds a way to #@&$% you over. As long as the nuts aren't stripped, you should be ok to clean up the mounting surfaces and just re-weld it.
