advice needed
I'm getting ready to install the engine in my 1969 2000, I've got the steering column and shaft out and I'm thinking about installing them after the engine is in based on my experience of how much the shaft gets in the way during the engine removal and installation process...thoughts or experience related advice?

Re: advice needed
I’ve pulled mine twice and never encountered any clearance issues.

Re: advice needed
I pulled/replaced several 1600’s with an overhead trolly & winch & have never had a problem either. I also use an engine leveler while doing this, it makes it much easier to control the engine’s position.

Re: advice needed
I just put in an engine in a 2000 steering column has no impact. I also had the intake and exhaust manifolds installed easier to put those on when on the engine stand.

Re: advice needed
Thanks, I've never had any serious issues with the shaft installed but it does make getting to the rear carb nuts a little difficult.

Re: advice needed
No clearance issues with the steering column installed. I'd think it would be tough to get to the U-joint at the steering box with the engine in in the first place.
I've pulled 10+ engines over the years and not once did I have an issue with the steering column being in the way. The key to installation and extraction of the engine is the angle at which you remove it. I did a video that is on youtube showing me removing my engine. Look up "Datsun Engine and transmission removal" on Youtube and it will be the first video that comes up.

Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!

Re: advice needed
+1 on Will Cambell's experience. Although I may have less than 10 engine pulls but probably very close to 10 for me.

Re: advice needed
Make sure you put something to protect the speedo take off for the transmission. Easy to damage the thread and a bugger to fix.
