215/70/14 - Will they fit on a ‘68-‘70?
Anybody have experience with/ pictures of a ‘68-‘70 with 215/70/14 tires? Can’t seem to find an example of one.
Trying to find out if they will fit under the arches without modification (Would be mounted on stock 280 ZX 14†rims).
Thanks.

Thanks for the input guys. That makes the ones I was looking at at least 1.7†taller than your examples above. Guess that’s a little too much rubber to ask our ‘lil roadsters to handle.

I used to run 215/60/14’s on my 69 with EMPI wheels. They may have just kissed the inner fender on the rear very occasionally, but they hit the front sway bar at full lock. You never really felt it, but it rubbed the paint off. My 195/60/14’s on the same wheels also rub the sway bar at full lock, but the car now sits on Deans comp springs.

That’s what I’m running now Mike (195/60/14’s on comp springs). The white lettering Eagle 2s I was looking at were a great price … but clearly no way they will fittheunz wrote: Sat Sep 17, 2022 11:54 am I used to run 215/60/14’s on my 69 with EMPI wheels. 195/55R14, Super Comp springs, 23mm bar, KYBs on front, no clearance issues.

Here are a few photos of 195/70/14 tires on stock and aftermarket wheels to help you estimate. FWIW, anything can "fit" up front but it's the rear fenders that limit clearance.

Ya, I see what you mean Alvin. Those rears look pretty maxed out as it is.

Re: 215/70/14 - Will they fit on a ‘68-‘70?
Many new cars had them and were swaped out in droves mostly having to do with a lack of SIPES,NIBS , in the big block of tread , my sister had a new 02 Liberty she complained drove funny at times , it seemed OK to me wearing right ,the tread block holds water making them hydro plane at 20mph driving it on only a moist road it was a handful I discovered wanted to swap endsBwk2000 wrote: Sat Sep 17, 2022 4:03 pmReally? I worked a out in the sticks tire dealer for a while he had trade magazines showing /describing horror stories of them, not that bad on rough gripping roads but hit a polished patch of asphalt and you're asking for it
Ever been on I 75 down to FLA. ? many times down to 2 lanes , &both ways and semi city.
You're driving in a .5 " rut ...bit of water & it's a long puddle

Interestingly enough, no mention of them being hydroplaning death traps in the literature
. Think I’ll just keep clear of them at any rate. Thanks.

Then there was the Firestone 500 fiasco… though never mounted on a roadster.
