Owner died, and it was a mess. Luckily the original Datsun top that was there to be copied was found and returned to Sid, after he drove from FL to PA to get it.
I remember when no one wanted the 1500s......

Glad Sid got his property back … One heck of a drive to get it though.datsun1500 wrote: Thu Aug 18, 2022 8:12 pm Owner died, and it was a mess. Luckily the original Datsun top that was there to be copied was found and returned to Sid, after he drove from FL to PA to get it.

Re: Smooth Line hardtops
It was a heck of a drive! I drove 1800 miles in two and a half days. The sad part is that they made a LOT of tops for virtually every 60's convertible. They were working on some really cool stuff too - a hardtop that turns a late model mustang convertible into a fastback. The old man that ran the place was in declining health, and apparently didn't have a good apprentice. In the end, it is a loss for the car community - although the last few years he wasn't exactly a benefit to the community. If someone likes doing fiberglass work, I believe that the assets of the company could be bought relatively inexpensively. LOTS of really cool molds will likely end up in the landfill if someone doesn't step up.

That’s horrible! 1800 miles of gas and two days of hotels so your stuff doesn’t end up in probate, sold off or in a landfill.

I gotta say the hardtop they had for the Datsun was really clean.

Re: Smooth Line hardtops
It's really a shame that they are gone. Someone should buy the business - it isn't just Datsuns that are losing out. All classic cars.
