It's actually just some black chassis paint I had laying around. The floors are getting cut out obviously and replaced. I was just trying to put a little protection on the exposed areas, it might be a few years before I get around to working on the car.

Um, yep, it sure does! Big heavy, metal drip tray. Don't know if there is anything left to drip though. Everything is just a little dry and rusty. I love the way the Fiata 124 has stayed true to the original in style, at least front end wise. Aesthetically more pleasing to me than the Miata. Love the custom touch you applied as well with venting.

Thanks. The two outer openings were recess areas for the turn signal housings on the giant US style bumpers. I converted both to bring fresh air into the engine compartment. Behind the vent grille material are black plastic brake ducts attached to brake duct tubing which is routed through the inner fenders. I’m a fair mechanic and can hold my own when it comes to working on most classic cars, but any restoration skills I have quickly disappear when it comes to bodywork - I’ve tried, but to put it bluntly, I suck at it. So, looking at the pictures of what you’re starting with, I can only admire the talent of people who can transform rusted & deformed metal into rolling art.
I’m a fair mechanic and can hold my own when it comes to working on most classic cars, but any restoration skills I have quickly disappear when it comes to bodywork - I’ve tried, but to put it bluntly, I suck at it. I started working on the body panels. Trunk lid first. I need to weld up those damn luggage rack holes and rust pin holes.
Next, I'll work on the hood, fenders, and doors. Then move on to the body on the cart. I attempted to media blast the frame, but the combination of 100% (Florida) humidity and my decent-sized (30 gallon) DeWalt compressor were not up to task. It would work for a little bit and then clog up the output hose. I'm going to rent a gas powered air compressor with higher CFM and give that a shot next. Trying to keep everything "in house" so to speak.
