Early glass bowl fuel strainer
I decided to put together my fuel bowl, as the parts were in separate boxes, so when it goes on the car, the whole assembly is together.
But, the NOS paper filter and spring would not fit. The part number for the filter is correct (according to the carpartsmanual) for a SP(l)311. The brass part underneath where the glass fuel bowl would go is small a dia., and the threaded studs are in the way for the fuel filter to push up into. The brass bit seems to part of the filtering for the outlet, as when you blow through that, you can feel your breath.
So, the question I am getting at is, have you seen that sort of fuel filter metal part before? It indicates that it's wrong (for a roadster) if the paper filter is correct. Is it a 1500 or 410/411 one?

Re: Early glass bowl fuel strainer
I don’t know about the 1500 filter but I got one for my 67.5 from Dean. It fit fine. It looks like the glass & filter top are different from mine. It’s possible that the 1500 used a different element.
Good luck getting this straightened out.
Peace,
Pat

I’ve never seen one with those threaded studs, any year. Do they unscrew?
I remember when no one wanted the 1500s......

The brass thing on the underside of the housing needs to come off. I've never seen one of those.

Re: Early glass bowl fuel strainer
Thanks for your input. I did try unscrewing the little nuts on the threaded studs, but didn't move. Will try a bit more force.

Re: Early glass bowl fuel strainer
I got a closer look since I am on my laptop. That does not appear to be a Roadster fuel bowl housing. I don't know what it is from. The stud on the top is way to big, the brass on the bottom is not stock.

Re: Early glass bowl fuel strainer
Thanks spl310.
That is what happens when you buy a stripped car, in my case 25 years before I brought it, parts go missing, inherit others.
FYI, the top stud does have a threaded hole in the top of it.
So, probably now looking for a used roadster fuel bowl to get this right....

Possibly it came from a Tractor?CSP311 wrote: Tue Jun 28, 2022 8:33 am Thanks spl310.

Re: Early glass bowl fuel strainer
I agree, that type of fuel bowl with the threaded hole in the top does sound agricultural. I will have to look, I may have a bowl assembly in the garage. Unfortunately I won't be home for a while. Ross surely has one at Sports Imports. If you are in a rush, contact him.

Re: Early glass bowl fuel strainer
DCA21 is probbaly right, being from a tractor.... As you see made in the USA, by AC. It is lovely how it filters, lots of cut/pressed discs stacked to gether with slightly raised feet to let the fuel through. Now removed and filter fits.
SPL310, if you have a proper sp311 one I could take it, but no rush...
