Help identifying small bits from taking engine out
Got the engine and transmission out and I’m ready to swap in a 5 speed finally on my u20. Okay so first the pin was on the ground under the engine bay after I pulled the engine, and second the collar was found near the transmission after I had separated the tranny from the engine, any ideas? (Penny for scale)

The pin might be from the 90 degree on the speedometer gear? The sleeve might be your pilot bushing?

Well the sleeve fits perfectly, is that where it belongs?

That is my guess, though you will definitely want to replace it with a new one. They are inexpensive and easy to replace.

Re: Help identifying small bits from taking engine out
There is choice re pilot bushing.
The first is a plain bronze sleeve that appears to be what you have.
The second and HP saving alternative is the needle roller bearing type.
Try and get the second type for your replacement

Re: Help identifying small bits from taking engine out
related, but nor relevant.
I read somewhere that one could use wet bread to remove a stuck pilot bearing.
There are other better ways, but essentially you press wet breadcrumbs into the bearing hole and keep on adding more until the bearing starts to come out.
Didn't need to, since the bearing was already out, but just fascinated by the thought - and it worked as described.
FWIW

Re: Help identifying small bits from taking engine out
Just wanted to confirm that the piece I found on the ground was indeed the pilot bearing and not a random but that just so happened to fit. Does this picture look right? (I’m aware the clutch isn’t aligned - waiting on clutch alignment tool)

Re: Help identifying small bits from taking engine out
I purchased a 510 pilot bearing and it is larger than what I have. Is the 510 not compatible with our roadsters?

Re: Help identifying small bits from taking engine out
Is the input shaft supposed to slide into the pilot bearing? The piece I found on the ground vs the 510 pilot bearing

Yes, Pilot bushing is supposed to slide onto the input shaft!

Does anybody know what the sleeve could possibly be then?

Re: Help identifying small bits from taking engine out
Any chance both parts are just from the gear shift lever assembly?
