Send Keith (keith0alan) a PM. He can probably hook you up.

Contact Ztherapy to have the nozzles rebuilt. I have ADQ needles on order from England. Should be here in a week or two.

picked up the nozzles from Ztherapy. (thanks Steve). On one of the carbs when I push the plunger up and let it fall, it comes down normally but does not completely close? I loosed the nut for the nozzle and it closes all the way but the nut is loose. if I try to tighten it at all the plunger does not come all the way down. how do I resolve this? (this is with the choke disconnected from the nozzle) the other carb does not have this issue.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the joy of centering nozzles. Sometimes it goes great other times it takes a number of tries.

is there a trick or process to centering? do I adjust the needle or the nozzle sleeve or both?

The nozzle sleeve gets adjusted. Loosen, wiggle, retighten, check, repeat until it drops cleanly. Wish I had a better answer. Sometime one try, sometimes 20 tries.

so after hours of working on it i have it so it drops cleanly all the way to the bridge every time.... BUT when i snug down the pot screws (4) it stops about a 1\4" from the bridge. loosen the 4 screws and it drops to the bridge.
Does this mean the piston and pot need to be replaced?

Thanks

Are you snugging them down one at a time, or a little bit each?

Center the nozzle after you tighten the dash pot screws.

How was this assembled at the factory in the ‘60s? There must be a more effective way to seat a needle than trial and error? Some form of calibration assembly tool or similar, no?

So, there’s a tool for that then. Is this the solution to everyones problems?

Reason I’m asking, even though I haven’t done this on SU carbs, I have done it many times in the past while rebuilding various holleys, edelbrocks, thermoquads and quadrajet carbs and it never was an issue … even with the ridiculously over-engineered quadrajets! Seems strange SUs would be such a PITA, and sooner or later, I will likely have to tackle one.
