Interior panel question

While I'm quarantining in the garage with Covid, I have 2 questions about interior panel fitment.

The rear flat package shelf panel has a lot of extra vinyl on the front. If I wrap it around the wooden 2x2, then the front metal lip of the package tray shows. Do I trim it and glue it over the lip and down behind the rear vertical carpet piece (the one shaped like a bikini top)?

How does the vertical panel on the trunk separator piece attach? The other panels have holes in the back for trim clips and this panel does not. I recall that some twisties were screwed through this area, but I failed to take any photos of it before disassembly and my parts car has some non-stock setup going on.

Any advice, description, and especially photos would be much appreciated. All the other panels seem pretty straightforward.

My '65 had vinyl on the leading vertical section of the luggage shelf. I made sure that it was long enough to fold over that top edge so that the flat panel could sit behind the edge and the metal was not exposed.

I don't know what was original, but I installed one of Dean's kits in my 67.5. In looking back on it, I think I will be redoing it. Originally I tried installing the horizontal piece but didn't like the way the wood piece has such sharp corners, my original piece used a soft, square foam instead of wood. So I wrapped the wood with 1/4" thick foam, then wrapped the vinyl down onto the front of the shelf behind the carpet. In looking back on it I really don't like the fact that this installation method keeps you from removing the horizontal part without pulling the carpet so I now plan on making a change. I will be wrapping the vinyl flap around the wood with foam and tucking it in under the wood, and cut some of the flap off to use to wrap the front edge of the package shelf and down behind the carpet. That way I can remove the package tray panel without messing with the carpet. Most folks won't want to remove the panel but I am planning on putting in a road bar which will require me to remove the panel to mount it & cut it to go around the bar.

As far as the vertical wall between the trunk & package shelf, mine is a tight fit but once I install the package straps there will be screws at the bottom of the the wall & the top fits under the lip at the top of the wall under the waist trim.

I like your solution of breaking the horizontal piece into 2 parts: glued on vinyl trim, and removable panel.

Sounds like for now your vertical panel is just a push-to-fit and it stays?

I used some industrial strength velcro cut into 50mm squares to hold the flat panel captive.
Probably 6 or so squares over the area of the panel and it grips quite well.
Haven't lost it yet!
The leading edge of my original trim wasn't wood, just a semicircular foam pad about 50mm diam.
So that is what I have now.
Didn't know some models used biodegradable padding

Erik, Yes, so far it just is just pushed in & it stays. The car isn't on the road yet, so I don't know for sure it will stay in place. If it comes loose I will put a few small screws through the panel into the bulkhead near the top where they won't show.

The 2x2 open cell foam use on the lead edge of the package self was just ‘yellow dust that pour out like beach sand.

Didn’t they close cell dense foam back in the day?

My original interior used foam that partially decomposed. The new replacement I got from Dean was a piece of wood which I really didn’t like. Although I used it, I will probably change it out to some type of foam in future.

For the flat piece it fits snugly and goes in first , once everything else is in place it wont move , also my car originally had twisties on it like Nissanman's car that further kept it in place .

for the shelf I don't like the idea of wood I would just get 1 yard of high density open cell foam and cut it to size , the extra vinyl is to hide the edge and goes over and under the carpet

personally I made my own panels but forgot to put extra vinyl , so I'll just be gluing some extra
