Gas leak 1968 1600 SU carbs . What is this?

Have a gas leak right where the two pieces come together. Looks like gasket is shot. Can anyone tell me what it is is/for? I look at carpartsmanual.com and it says for USA cars and a little extra pic but doesn't (that I can tell) say what it is or show the gasket. Need to make gasket I'm figuring.

It is the return valve. It helps prevent vapor lock. Ron Welden sells gaskets on eBay and his website. Pretty cheap - laser cut.

Not too hard to DIY.
Make a few while you are at it: that will ensure that it will never leak again

When you disassemble it make sure the mating surfaces are flat. They rarely are and this contributes to the leaking. I have repaired a bunch of these.

Use proper gasket paper, not a Cornflakes box

Was getting ready to cut one from an old window shade (ha ha not really) when I received an email from ronsautoaccesories saying they were just shipped. When i ordered them I recived a message saying they were put of stock but... hopefully that was a gitch. They are pictured as rather delicate (narrow, small) so I am glad these will be Lazer cut rather than hacked out by me

Received the gaskets and they were perfect. Replaced old gasket and now no leak. Got them timely too, shopping resonable ( $2.00). Thanks spl310 for that lead on Ron's gaskets.
