Wiring harness removal

Post by josemariagervacio »

I’m trying to remove the rear wiring harness. The fuel sender wire is between the trunk and the frame rail? Is there a way to get this out before I do my frame off other that cutting the wire? Not sure if it’s this way from factory or just another stupid thing someone has done to the wiring on my poor car.

It was between the two. There should be a gap between the body pads on the rear frame rail (the wire "tunnels" through that gap. and then there are tabs on the body to hold the sending wires. If your pads have collapsed and your taking the body off anyway, you could take out just the two trunk bolts and probably the two in the rear wheel well and just jack the body up a quarter inch and pull the wires through.

Drop the tank - you're going to do that anyway. If you don't want to do that now, remove the access panel in the trunk floor to disconnect the wires.

There are two bullet connectors for the harness at the bumper that connect to the rear harness. Just unplug those. The fuel harness is routed on the top of the tank and held in place by a tab. You might be able to remove it by pulling it through the inspection plate opening. Doubtful you can pull it the other way because of the nail head connectors at the sender.

If you are dropping the tank don't bother. Just unplug from the rear harness and leave it.

Thanks for the responses!

Tank is already dropped and I believe my bullet connections were on the other side of the frame being the reason I could pull the wires through.

Might just wait till I lift the frame..was hoping to be able to have the wiring ready before the frame off.
