One of my most favorite Datsun roadster racing images-- John Morton and Jack Scoville battling it out in turn 11 at Sears Point in 1969.

Image

I asked Jack Scoville and John Morton about this particular race at the Riverside Race Track Hall of Fame induction in 2012 (where both Jack and John were inducted along with a bunch of other Datsun/Nissan racers), and listened in great delight as both of the recalled that particular race in great detail. 43 years after that race, they could describe what part of the track that they passed each other on (there were several lead changes that day) who missed a shift, who went wide in what corner, etc. and I marveled seeing the mutual respect that Jack and John had for each other-- it was a very special experience.

Later that weekend both Jack and John autographed each others vintage photos from their Roadster racing days-- with lots of laughs...

Happy birthday John Morton-- you're a class act for sure!

Alvin,

Thanks for posting this. looking back at the pictures from their racing days is pretty cool, especially John Morton with the nerdy glasses and the long hair. They both still look great, especially to us "old guys". So much great history surrounding our humble roadsters...

Thanks again!

Happy 80th Birthday John Morton.
It's because of your early Datsun Race pioneering that the car has caught so much attention, from back then then to now. We all owe you so much for making it so popular.

Happy Birthday to John!!! I had the pleasure of racing with John a few years ago at VIR. He was a true gentleman and it was a blast.

Oh yeah, he's still pretty fast too!

Happy Birthday Mr. Morton!

And Mike, thanks for running the Rock Vest car. For me, it is THE Datsun Roadster race car.

But I did just watch the video on the 72 car, and man o man that suckers fast!
