SoCal ride up Angeles Crest this Saturday

Post by Howard R »

Anyone interested in a run up Angeles Crest Hwy this Saturday to Newcomb's Ranch for an early lunch? We can meet on Angeles Crest off the 210 fwy., on the east side of the street, just north of the gas station. 9:30? Exit Angeles Crest Hwy. Go north, the gas station is on the right.

Howard, are you refering to the little road next to the Shell station, where we met for the Mini Iron Bottom Run? If so, that is SOUTH of the 210 exit.

Victor, I wasnt at the iron bottom, but i believe you are correct about the Shell station being south of the freeway. If it wasnt for mapquest I'd be in Idaho on my way to Pasadena.

I might go, but not in my Roadster. I'm not quite that confident yet in driving that kind of a run. I'll shoot for a co-pilot spot, or, if not, just be the support vehicle, like in bicycle racing :)

Actualy Linny, This is a great "shake out" drive. It's not far, there will be fast and cruise folks, so you wont be alone and You'd have lots of support if things go bad.

Beats heading out on even a short drive alone.

You've been working on that beast for what... 6 years? Time to blow the dust off her, I'd say!

Well there was a small, but dedicated group of Roadster enthusiasts on the run yesterday up Angeles Crest and Mt Wilson. It was rather hot , but at least no one's car overheated. Tom, Howard and Joaquin were right on time, but Vic was no where to be found. A quick call and we discover he thought it was next week, Doh! However, in record time, Vic shows and the run begins. I got to ride in Howard's beautiful red 2000. What a beautiful nice running car with many special touches that Howard contributed. Howard assured me that he was a cruiser when it came to these runs so I felt very comfortable on all the twisties. Vic, on the other hand, was enjoying challenging the road.
Unfortunately on the way back down we passed a somewhat depressed appearing Vic pulled off the road, next to a black and white.....Yup looks like the Law snared Vic. We were waved on so the mystery remains....could it possibly have been speeding???

I think Victor was just pulled over cause they were jealous of his car. They had a hard time believing that a Datsun could handle so well at above recommended speed limits. Yeah that's it! probably talking shop.
That was fun and nice meeting a new face (Linda) and Joaquin, you make that 1600 rock! Hope you made it home OK ! Howard, it's always nice to see that beauty of a red car. It really stands out (I hate you). I spent a better part of half an hour and got my trunk opened. Thanks for you and Linda's help.

"....could it possibly have been speeding??? "

Who me?!?!

First ticket in 17 years. He wanted Joachim and Tom aswell, and was ready to pull them over too, but I plead that I was the only "Trouble maker" in the group and said "We all started out together at Wilson turnoff and Look how far back they are, Sir. They wern't speeding". With that he put the Radar gun back down and just wrote me. 68 in a 45.

I saw him when I came out of the turn and said "oh ish!" and slowed down...... and thought to myself damn they got big V. After I passed you guys I took off! I didnt want to be the next on his list!!

Thanks for saving our asses... in my case my driving priviliges.
