Nigeria Scam artists watching our list:

Post by gmagana »

Hello all, I just wanted to make sure that all you 311s.org list members were all aware that there are scammers that have been surfing our list. I recently listed 68 1600 for sale on the for sale section and was contacted by a "Ryan Babble" who said he was an international businessman etc etc etc... Turns out when I searched his IP heading from his email 193.220.26.95 it was originating from Lagos in Nigeria. Just thought you should all know, especially since some of us list our cars from time to time on this list. It never hurts to be careful.
Thanks, Gerardo

Nothing new there. We get at least two to three new accounts each day that are hackers and/or spammers. Due diligence is the name of the game in the times we live in.

I swear it seems the entire country of Nigeria is full of scammers! I have never gotten any other kind of email out of that country, especially those money laundering posts. Jeesh.

Hey, come on, it's nice over here in Nigeria, except for the explosion of Carpel Tunnel syndrom from all of us scamming on the internet 16 hours a day.
( I lied and said I was from New Jersey, sorry it was all Sid's idea :D , Evan is in on it too  ).

Seriously, it's the classic "If it sounds too good to be true...it IS" It depends on people being naive and sometimes greedy. I hate to say people deserve it if they fall for it, because most don't deserve it, but the whole scam is pretty transparent. "I'll send you $20,000 you keep $10,000 and wire $10,000 to an offshore bank to pay for a $5000.00 item" or something similar. Luckily most figure it out, I just send obscene replys for fun.

There is a site to forward thede solicitations to at the FTC or FBI, but not likley to help.

Oh, really?? The old ball joint scam?

Seriously, if one was to pull a scam on a Roadster site, the balljoints are perfect, everybody wants or needs a set.
