I'm back in Datsun - 67.5 2000
Hey 311 community,
I couldn't be happier to find myself in a Datsun again after after so many years. Decades ago, I was driving, sometimes crashing, a Datsun as a high school and college kid. My Datsun journey began with a 1972 240z (crashed), then a 1971 240z. For some crazy reason I traded in my '71 for a new Celica in 1984. Missing the visceral experience the Datsun brought me, I found a 67.5 1600 in Dallas as a young Army 2LT. The Roadster traveled with me across the county through Cape Cod to Virginia Beach where it was finally sold in 1998. A third 240z, an orange '72, just like the first one was found in Florida in 2010, and sold in 2016, in favor of the '88 911 Carrera. My fondness of the '67.5 R16 from so many years ago was the impetus for me to keep my eye on the Datsun roadster and 240z market even as I plowed head-first into Porsche air-cooled ownership. The '67.5 was always the sweet-spot for me, even though I had never even saw one, but imaged it would feel like an early L24 motor I so enjoyed. I remember driving to Bob Sharpe Racing in my first 240z from my home in Rhode Island and spotting a race-prepped 2000 Roadster. I have no idea what year the car was, but I loved the thought of owning one. I had never seen one for sale until recently on BaT. Now I didn't buy that car, but I found the The550 Roadster for sale a month ago and moved on it pretty quickly given it's rarity. I would love to find a Roadster gathering somewhere Mid-Atlantic region or on the East Coast. So, your East Coast guys let me know if you interested in a meet-up and drive.

Re: I'm back in Datsun - 67.5 2000
Welcome brother from #588. Car looks great and very correct! I fell in love with mine 37.5 years ago when it first drove past me, then became mine 36 years ago and the love affair has never died. Since it was already modified and a basket case, I did what ever I wanted to it, and today it's fuel injected, crank fired and modified in many other ways. Its been everything I've ever wanted in a car and mechanical friend. And while you have some very cool cars there, here and gone, I think you'll agree, there's nothing like a convertible. Enjoy your return to home!
BTW, if you don't already have them, get yourself a set of Bilsteins. Night and day.
WELCOME!

Hi Rob,
Very nice car. I'm in Gloucester Point, not far away. That race prepared roadster you saw at Sharp's place is mostly likely the one in my garage so it's a small world.

Rob,
Pretty obvious at this point that your nr.550 is generating considerable interest among this group of roadster enthusiasts, many of whom wish for more details on the car. At your convenience, please submit information and photo you would like to include in the permanent registry:
https://www.311s.org/index.php/roadster ... ntry-form/
Steve Allen (creator of the site) will then enter the info and photo you included. Steve owns SRL279 and also a '72Z, among other things.
Thank you, and again, a sincere welcome.

For those of us that have never attended a Mecum auction, what was it like to win #550?

It’s in the 67 2000 registry, but needs updating. Still shows a few owners ago, and when the car was blue.jhayden wrote: Mon Feb 21, 2022 11:03 am Rob,
