Hacked Again

Post by S Allen »

We had a temporary issue again this morning where the URL for the website was changed in WordPress which effectively broke the whole website. I guess some folks don't have anything better to do than mess with others. This is the second time this has happened but I had a feeling I knew what they had done. I was correct and got it fixed right away. No passwords or personal information were affected. This was a redirect of 311s.org to a non-existent website address throwing a critical error. I am sure most folks don't even care about this but wanted to let everyone know what was happening. Thanks.

THANK YOU Steve for your quick action and TIME. Agreed, there are too many people in the world who see no better use for their talents than to cause problems for others... it's never made any sense to me either. I'm sorry they seem to be hurting so bad, and hope that they have some kind of meaningful encounter or experience that results in a change of heart and mind.

…
+1 Steve

Fortunately, a null redirect is about as basic of damage as one can do for a DoS - Probably a Bot. If it keeps randomly happening even after updating the backup management & plugin security, it may have exploited (or added) a back door to create a new administrator account & privileges somewhere along the line - Who knows …

P.S. Keep up the great work!

Thanks guys. It has not happened often. The last time was several years ago. I do try to keep everything to the latest releases but shit can still happen. That is part of being on the world wide web.
