ZERO Star Rating - Didn’t even know that was possible for a new car.
Roughly the same size & weight of our Roadsters … Does not inspire confidence in how we would fare.

Does it have the cage sub frame ?
And super tight engine compartment? That'll fix it

Both driver & passenger injuries were assessed as being fatal … at only 40 mph!
There is no fixing that coffin on wheels, nor ours I think.

Yeah I know, it just makes the car super hard to access to work on ,....trans, , engine R&R etc.
But it does a bit better in those crazy tests

Yes, without a doubt, an accident in one of our cars would not be a good thing. Dan (Rallye Roadster) had info on his accident in his catalogs. He had noted a few things... one was that his collapsible steering column had worked as designed and had not moved into his face, and two was that his seat bolts had begun to pull through the flooring (there may be a few more things... I'll see if I can find the catalogs and review). Unfortunately my 67.5 has the single "death spear" column, though I believe they can be retrofitted. I carried one around for years but never installed it. I installed much larger flat washers on all my seat bolts. I've installed 3" 4point racing harnesses, though honestly they are probably not fully correct on their shoulder mount location (stock, on the rear wheel hump, too low) and it has a (body mounted) rollbar which "might" help. Upgraded brakes (Toyota 4 piston calipers on Nissan Maxima vented rotors) and more engine power are also safety measures... I've actually avoided accidents by quickly accelerating past the impending contact (semi-truck coming into my lane on a curve... braking would have killed us).

Bottom line is that we are very small, not well protected, and our best defense is to be watching ALL the time. I look both ways at EVERY intersection regardless, try to anticipate what others can or cannot see (me, other cars) or what they may do (changing lanes as they're approaching slower traffic or on/off ramps), monitor other drivers behavior (on their phone, drifting in the lane or anything else that just makes me wary), don't look at my passenger while we're talking and driving (bugs me when people do this and I'm the passenger!), and keep distractions to minimum if I drive past something interesting.

I'm sure I've put over 300K miles on my car in 36 years, with multiple cross state drives at warp speeds. I've had some close calls, one two years ago OF MY OWN DOING because I was IMPATIENT that reminded me of what's really important (getting home in one piece). I really enjoy my car and am not afraid to drive it in a spirited manner, but I've become more patient if there's a bunch of traffic on what would be a fun twisty section of road... there will be more!

Lots of great points and recommendations Greg. This one is also #1 priority on the bike … drive like no one even sees you … which they quite often don’t.

Absolutely … Not sure I’ve built up enough good karma to ignore the possibility of worse case scenario … not that I’d still be around to debate it afterwards
