"Hot" coil question -67.5 SRL

With electronic ignition, and resistor removed, engine continues to run when key is turned off. With ignition switch off, the "+" side of the coil is hot. Replaced old ignition switch (3 prong) with new 240Z switch (5 prong) and ran new wiring from switch to coil.

Current switch wiring is:

Acc | Resistor (blanked off) |
Coil (B/W) |
Power (B/W) | Start (B/Y) |


Did I wire the switch incorrectly, causing power to flow to coil, or are there any other ideas?

Welcome Handlebar! No answer to your questions but I'm sure a wiring expert will chime in soon. Can't look at my own car because it no longer has a distributor! I note your car is SRL31100508... Have we seen this Car? Want to share any info? We always like hearing about them as they emerge from wherever they have been hiding...

If the coil is heating up and the car won’t turn off, you likely wired the switch wrong (start voltage is being constantly applied). This can fry your coil - Recheck it against the 240Z 5-pin switch pic below.

Further to my last, CONFIRM the letters (on the switch) that correspond to each terminal as many variants were produced.
B = Battery
S = Starter
A = Accessory
IG = Ignition
R = Relay/Resistor

With a long piece of bell wire connect ed to the pos Coil wire, disconnected , find it at the ign swt. with a continuity test beep then it needs to be on ign , possibly the fuse box is melted and short circuit check that wire continuity to other pos wiring

I have owned the car since the about 1980-81, but due to life, it has been mostly stored; last tagged in 1985 in Texas. All original with rebuilt engine, transmission, hydraulics, cooling system, fuel system, etc., with SU carbs.In the final stages of getting it roadworthy.

Cool! When you get some time, post some Pics! There was a registry, not sure where it is any more. I have #588... wasn't stock when I got it 36 years ago, and certainly isn't now! These are awesome cars, and we never get tired of driving ours. There are a number of suggestions about things to do to make your car better and to avoid some issues down the road... like emergency trunk and hood releases, in-line fuses, etc. Glad you have converted to the EI dizzy... a great upgrade. My personal best suggestion is a set of Bilstein shocks... expensive (yes) but they transform the ride and improve handling like nothing else. I've tried them all.

UPDATE
It appears the PO spliced a hot wire under the dash that ran to the coil. Once that was corrected, and switch wiring was done correctly, it seems to be working fine. Thanks for the assistance.

My 16 yr old cousin Craig who looked more 21 ,6'3" then
He has a near 4.0 student,gpa and his parents agreed to get him a muscle car in late 63 , but not a manual trans , at the chevy dealer his dad couldn't understand why Craig was more interested in the Corvairs , they were a bit like a Porsche , thats what he wanted , though, it a manual trans .
His Dad like driving it too , he drove it 2 days a week ,he checked the milage and mpg , soon he noticed it got great mpg's but was erratic , mid 40s to high 20s .
Taking it back to Chevy he told them this they said 29 is normal also the speedo was jumping a bit but quit .
The service writer joked your boy isnt taking it out late nite is he . His Dad had noticed he a few time heard a Corvair he thought start up kinda strange but 2 blocks down the street late 11-11:30 pm
The speedo started jumping again , the dealer fixed saying it was hand tight , looks like it was loosened
Craig looked 21 @16 and could get into bars many times
His bf was a senior and his brother wasi n a fraternity at UMKC Craig and the bf were waiting til the parents were asleep pushing the corvair ( parked on street) and wiring the ign then jumping the clutch to drive to the frat house partys to drink , meet some girls there
The dad stayed awake one friday late and snuck out himself waiting down the street behind a tree , he stepped out in the road in front of them with a flash lite into the road ad they were trying to get it started dad pulled the coil wire about 9:30
