Glad you like Krispy Kreme's they are a source of pride here as they originated in Winston-Salem, NC. At least until they were bought by a conglomerate and moved south to Charlotte! Still the fantastic donut making machines are still built in town.

The doughnut machines are fascinating to watch. As far as the doughnuts, there's nothing else that I can think of that is so good when it's hot and fresh, yet so bad when it's stale as a Krispy Kreme

15 Seconds in the Microwave works wonders on an older KK donut! But then, some things just can't be, or aren't worth, being rehabilitated - like a rusted out, neglected, stripped and parted out Roadster shell (just to stay on topic!)
