Set-up: Stock SU carburetors for 1968 R16 motor
Originally delivered with smog equipment, smog system removed
Plugged ports and installed GB EI Dizzy
No other changes or adjustments made to the carburetors
After several long hard runs, the car started to perform poorly, I disassembled, inspected (oil level was low in the rear carb) and cleaned the “top†portions of both carburetors. Replaced the oil in both the reservoirs and reassembled.
Engine runs very well and the driving performance problems are now gone.
New problem: cannot get the engine to idle below 1100 rpm
I have backed out all the idle adjust screws (1 on each carb and the 1 on the linkage) till they are no longer engaged and still have the same problem. Car maybe running rich but I'm too much of a novice to tell for sure.
The carbs sync up great and run smooth at 1100 but it’s just to fast to be practical.
thanks as always
Matt

If the only change was the cleaning of the domes, I would look for bent needles or misaligned needles...
When you are doing the adjusting, are you disconnecting the linkage completely?
