Mikuni 40's

Post by CSP311 »

I have come across a pair of Mikuni 40's, how can you tell if they are correct for the roadster? I see things like type Q on conversations here.... it has the Mikuni sticker with 21100-88236 with a google are for a Toyota. Were they specific for the Toyota, or they fine for the roadster, as in the same type (Q)

Yes, I know they will fit physically..

Dave Premo will likely know, but as far as what's "right" for a Roadster, they all work pretty much the same. It really is more a matter of figuring out linkage, venturi sizing (at least 34mm for a U20) and jetting. As you said, they should bolt right up. Should work well to 7000rpm.

You will likely have to jet them and figure out the linkage, but they will work fine

Yes, they will work. Dave will have the parts for rebuild and jetting, we should have the
necessary linkage.

Thanks all.
Yes Dean, I had your stickers stored in my brain (somewhere) for future use..

Seller has a pair of 40 PHH-2 which look like original BMW mid-1960's fitment, but those would work too with jetting...

Can anyone tell me what the stickers for the type Q (Type 2) Mikuni carbs would look like?

Are these Mikuni Solex or Solex Phh-2 (Q type) I've never seen 40mm Q type Mikunis. That doesn't mean they weren't made, I've just never seen any. If they are Solex made pHH-2s I think I'd hold off until I found some Mikuni made carbs. The Solex carbs aren't that great.

Roadsters never came with 40mm carbs. Will they work? Sure. The 1600s did have a Nissan Comp MIkuni intake for 40s, but I'm pretty sure those were the type 4 Mikunis, not the type 2s (Q type) They never (as far as I know) came from the factory with them installed. Only the 2L came with Mikunis from the factory

Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!

Thanks Will.
They are the Solex, not the Mikuni Solex. If they fit, so be it, if not, its a restore and sell back as original equipment (not for the roadster). They were cheap, so worth it from that point of view.
I don't intend to go Solex/Mikuni for my engine build, just they happened to pass and I grabbed, both lots as a restoration project on the side.

I will post some pics for interest/reference when they arrive...
