Re: 1970 SPL resto finally started...
More progress today. My front valance was bashed up and the areas around the fog light mount holes were both cracked. I scored an NOS front support and valance assembly from Mike Young, still in 50 year old red Nissan primer. I carefully drilled out the spot welds, stripped the valance down to bare metal, measured and test fit many, many times, hit the mating surfaces with weld-through primer, and then MIG "spot" welded the new valance to my original support. Looks a million times better now.

Re: 1970 SPL resto finally started...
Happy New Year(s eve)!
Been busy with boring non-Roadster stuff lately, but whenever I've had free time, I've been sanding, sanding, and more sanding. Have I mentioned how much I loathe sanding? Makes me want to gouge my eyes out. With sandpaper.
Anyways, all that sanding, prepping, and taping finally came to fruition when I painted my engine bay and surrounding areas. It turned out pretty nice. There are a few spots in the engine bay that I'm less than happy with, but I'm going to do some wet sanding and maybe a bit of touch-up, and that will have to do. Looks a hell of a lot better than it did before! The good news is I'm done with silver for now. Just need to get black undercoating on the inner fenders and underside, and then I can drop the body back on to the beautiful frame.

More progress!
Got a bunch done the last couple of days:
I degreased, sanded, primed, and sprayed rubberized undercoat on the whole bottom of the pan, except for a stripe right above the exhaust, which is coated in Lizard Skin ceramic heat barrier.
I degreased, sanded, and coated the insides of the fenders with rust encapsulator, then epoxy primer. They look a million times better.
And, last, but certainly not least, I got black rubber caps on all the sharp metal tabs that have been slicing my hands open whenever I'm working in the engine bay. I feel so much safer now. The rubber caps I used are from McMaster-Carr. Part numbers 85945K23 and 85945K46. These 2 bags are enough to do the whole frame and body with leftovers for a total of about $27. They are a bit too long (better than too short!) so you just cut each one to match the tab it goes on.

Smart move to get the plastic caps, better than give up a pint of blood :- 0 The car bottom and fenders look better than new..
After many hours of going down the YOUTUBE rabbit hole doing research, a pair of stock looking fiberglass front fenders are going to be "attempted" ...

Even more progress...
Got the inner fenders sprayed with rubberized undercoating, and got some items bolted into the engine bay: refreshed overflow tank, radiator support bars, and front X brace. Trying to keep the momentum up to get this car to Solvang.

Re: 1970 SPL resto finally started...
By the way, the front X brace is from H&R in Australia. It is very nicely made and comes with all hardware and mounting instructions. The mounting is a mirror image of the instructions, though, because it was made for RHD cars.
https://www.hrc-dat.com.au/apps/webstor ... cale=en-AU
The price isn't as scary as it seems, since it's in Aussie $, not USD.

That cross brace is neato but I think I could make one for less than roughly $250 US. Might just try but way in the future , got to much on my plates already. You progress is great love the build. Also thanks for the part#’s for the caps. Got mine on order already!
