Major kudos to Jim at DRP

Post by funkaholik »

I just wanted to say a huge public thank you to Jim Tyler at Datsun Restoration Products for going way above and beyond simply supporting the products he sells.

I purchased one of his Hitachi right hand alternator kits for my '70 1600. Very nicely made and complete kit. Due to my engine having a modified U20 crank with a custom harmonic balancer from a later Nissan engine installed, the kit wouldn't fit. Stock alignment would be with the front "V" of the pulleys. But my modified crank pulley has only one "V", which lines up with the rear one on the water pump pulley. Certainly not DRP's fault.

I studied the Hitachi mount, and because of its two bottom feet, I couldn't modify it to fit. I saw on the DRP site that he has a smaller Denso kit that looked like I could modify it to work. So I called Jim and told him about my situation. His response was to let me return my Hitachi kit, and then spend some time discussing measurements and alignment so that he could modify a Denso kit for me! That is above and beyond customer service. I received the new kit, bolted it up out of the box, and everything aligns perfectly.

Thank you, Jim, for going out of your way to modify your product to fit my unique situation. Standing behind your products is one thing. Customizing them to mesh with your customers modifications is a whole other level.
