Jon Frampton gauges
I just emailed him earlier today.
His crew is down with Covid. May be a couple of weeks for an answer.
I don't know if anyone else has some rough pricing on gauge conversion.

Re: K24A2 swap into 66
Hi DAC21, I'm sorry, I have no idea on those differences.DAC21 wrote: Sun Aug 15, 2021 1:36 pm
Happen to know Jon's price difference for a speedo / tac restore from a normal factory cable operation versus GPS speedo, electronic pulse TAC upgrade?
When I got mine 'simply' redone, it was between 750-850 bucks I believe.
It was my first 'splurge', and felt expensive at the time. But to me, it was worth every penny. Jon does it right.
Good luck,
pm

Re: Gauge selection
Hi Slackline.Slackline wrote: Sun Aug 15, 2021 1:14 pm Thanks. Mine are similar in condition without the cracked glass.
I'm glad to hear that.
It is certainly impressive work... But I would expect that from a guy that works on aircraft gauges.
Yes! I'd expect, or at least hope, that the planes buzzing overhead have some good gauges.
And Jon is a true professional, maybe a little tough to get ahold of, but always did respond.
I really want to redo his website, because it does not do his work justice. Maybe I'll bug him again...
Good luck in whatever you choose. You've got a really neat build going. Congrats.

Re: K24A2 swap into 66
Thanks Peter.
His website is definitely lacking... I was really hoping to get more information on there. I'm sure it would be hard to put prices up there because he won't know what a gauge needs until he opens it up.
Anyway, if the cost is similar to a new set of gauges (which it appears to be) then I'll probably have him re-work mine.
My car had a non-original motor in it when I got it. I put a completely different motor in, so why worry about keeping the gauges original at this point? Jon's work looks great.

Ballpark on full gauge set refurb and conversion including chrome bezels and re calibrating the tach for higher redline is about $1,400. 2-3 month wait.
New aftermarket gauge set ~900.
I guess I can use my Hondata app as my temporary gauge cluster while having mine rebuilt...

Received my one wheel and had a tire put on it. I ordered the other 3.

Spriso brake kit
Worked on the brakes today.
I purchased the 26mm version to hopefully prevent the wheels from sticking out as much.
Beware when ordering your brake parts. The Spriso kit is top notch. But the parts list (nuts and bolts) that you need to get seems to be wrong. For the hat to caliper bolts, the document says 1 1/4" long. Both of the lists he sent me for the 26mm rotors said to get the 1 1/4". The other list he sent which i assume is for the 30mm rotors says 1" bolts. Get the 1" bolts. I had to cut mine down because they were interfering with the caliper bolts.
Regarding the caliper bolts, all of the lists say 12mm x 1.25mm x 40mm. These are way too long. They stick through so far that they hit the 1 1/4" bolts above. I cut more than 1/4" off of them and they still hit the 12mm x 40mm caliper bolt. See pics:
This is the caliper attachment bolt. You can see how far it sticks out past the mounting plate. This additional material is what hits the rotor bolts.
These are the rotor bolts. 1" should be fine if the caliper bolts above are shortened.
This is the distance you need for caliper clearance on your wheels. I believe Spriso said it was 2 cm. It is closer to 3cm on the 26mm kit. Now I am not sure that my front rims will clear the rotors without a spacer. I have not had a chance to try them.
Overall it was frustrating that the bolts were too long. Maybe I did something wrong. I ordered all of them from McMaster Carr. But, I have to say that the Spriso kit is very heavy duty and the machine work is excellent.

Re: K24A2 swap into 66
Ok, Michael got back to me.
I was supposed to get some flat and lock washers for the caliper to bracket bolts (not mentioned in docs). That and the 1" rotor bolts and the clearance should be fine. I am glad that got straightened out.

Got them all together. Just need to bleed the brakes and check for wheel interference.

They remind me of Sunbeam Tiger (LAT) wheels. Originally 13" but now available in a modern, 15" equivalentSlackline wrote: Fri Aug 06, 2021 10:33 am I think I found some wheels.
I ordered one to see if it will fit. I guess they custom drill the lug holes after you order, so it could take a couple weeks to get here.

Very common on Datsun Roadsters

Glad you could find a set that you like!

Re: K24A2 swap into 66
Yes. That is the fitment on the VTO site. I did see those on your wheel thread, Alvin. For some reason when I researched them before, I dismissed them. I think I only found the smaller ones and not the ones on the VTO site.
3 more tires coming too. Went with the Toyo R1R in 195/55 size.

Nice! Perfect tire size choice. You'll need those R1Rs tooSlackline wrote: Tue Aug 24, 2021 9:00 pm Yes. That is the fitment on the VTO site. I did see those on your wheel thread, Alvin. Re: K24A2 swap into 66
My other 3 wheels are supposed to arrive today. Multiple shipping delays. Fingers crossed. I have to say that I am not a fan of FedEx right now...
Hopefully I can post some pics of it back on the ground with some new kicks soon.
