Fans for a race car
I know a electric fan might be better on U20 race car but I have a 4 blade fan and a 2 blade fan in addition to the 7 blade I currently have on the car. I will experiment a bit but wonder if any current racers are using mechanical fans. When I got it it had the 2 blade fan on it which looks to to be a modified 4 blade fan. A puller electrical fan will be a tight fit with the water pump and a pusher is not the best plus may be tight to the oil cooler.

I think a lot of racers don’t run a fan at all. Plenty of air while going around a track.

Yeah... they usually or used to run the alt belt so loose it only put out enough current to power the ign (my boss used to race Datsuns , had stories )theunz wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:34 pm I think a lot of racers don’t run a fan at all. Plenty of air while going around a track.

Re: Fans for a race car
I either run an electric fan or no fan at all and never a fan on the water pump. It depends on the car. The only time you need a fan is coming off a hot track and heading to impound or the scales if they are slow getting you there. Usually, you're trying to get heat in the engine on the grid before the race so don't need the fan. A fan really doesn't add any cooling except below 35 mph. I have an electric fan on the roadster but a non-stock radiator and it fits. It helps for the tour in town and the trip around the old road course at the Glen
. I don't use one on the 240Z and I have one electric one on the S2000 but it originally had two. I have them switched so I can turn them off unless needed in the pits.

I didn't have good luck with an electric fan. The engine ran hotter than the solid 7 blade plastic fan. That blade was NOISY! Went with a metal flex fan and it works great!

I am with Mike as I don't run a fan on the water pump just an electric one on my aftermarket aluminum radiator.

No fans on either car. No alternators either.. Water pump and oil pump.
