Possible to Install Pre-‘67 Handbrake in Later Car?

Post by SP3 »

With understanding anything is possible, will the ‘66 and earlier Handbrake assy or even better just the handle interchange with the later style handbrake?

Has anyone tried installing that can comment on what mods are required to make work?

The parts manual shows different part numbers for not only the handle, but also the ratchet & shaft the handle goes on. If you have access to a later assembly it wouldn’t hurt to try it. The plate between the hand brake assembly & the body, the key & the but are the same for all years so it might be just a matter of swapping the handle assembly.

The parts manual also shows different part numbers as far down the system as the idler shaft.
