I didn't read through everything, but I also thought about carb balance. Hard to do without it running, but once it is do çheck it. My first experience with SUs had the car running surprisingly well on one carb.

Hmm, I actually dont have the vacuum advance disconnected at the moment ( i did block off the hose so there is no air leak) but it was definitely an issue.

I do have a fuel return line connected. You can see all the heat wrap and such to deal with vapor lock (its been an ongoing issue) however, even with vapor lock, I can get things going... this is... strange. I will try starter fluid once warm to see if that does something.

Ill try the carb cleaner route, see what that turns up.

I actually used that article when setting everything up initially, does not explain the hard start. as soon as the engine is even slightly warm, it wont start as you have seen.

The other thing, while all this is good, I feel like none of these issues would particularly result in the engine just not starting.
