Wheel cylinder rebuild kit
Has anyone found a rebuild kit for the 3/4" rear wheel cylinders used on later model 311's? I've seen a NAPA kit, UP1065 and a Raybestos kit, WK1065 mentioned in older posts. Neither seem to be available anymore. Is this wheel cylinder used on any other cars or is there another way to cross reference a seal kit that will work? I would imagine the seal wasn't unique to this application. My cylinders were relined years ago and look fine.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Wheel cylinder rebuild kit
3/4 inch Kits can be found at the link below. Not as cheap as the Napa / Raybestos kits were back in the day but you can pick and choose from just the Piston cup seal 2 for $25, or full one wheel kit with all new seals and pistons for $96 ea. and everything in between.roysuecan wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 1:20 am Has anyone found a rebuild kit for the 3/4" rear wheel cylinders used on later model 311's? Re: Wheel cylinder rebuild kit
Since people have used 510 3/4" rear brake cylinders on the roadster and they are not expensive can you buy a 510 cylinder and pull the guts out of them and use them in the roadster one?

Re: Wheel cylinder rebuild kit
I thought at least the early 510 rear wheel cylinders were 13/16 bore like the rears on the 1965-67 Roadster? Then again this rebuild kit says 7/8, so who knows.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/123833647497
Then this entire wheel cylinder showing for a 510 and other models is 13/16 bore

This centric 510 wheel cylinder shows 13/16 bore as well. Rock Auto has this Centric for $7. Wondering if the Piston chould swap over to the early 1600 Roadster? Of course an SAE to MM adapter to use the entire 510 Wheel cylinder as is on an early 1600 has been mentioned but I can say I have found a Roadster owner that has successfully done it.

Re: Wheel cylinder rebuild kit
!3/16"? Great, I have both 3/4 and 13/16 cylinders. This is worth a try. Thanks for the info and correction.
I wonder if you could drill out a 3/4 with a 25/32 bit and then hone it? I have a junk cylinder I could try it on.
I'll bet you could send them in and have them sleeved 13/16 and use the cheap kit.

Karp's in So Cal will resleeve in SS for I believe $80ish. But long lead times. If my memory serves me I believe Apple hydraulics on the East Coast will resleeve in brass for $75 each (UPDATE, $65 EA.) Apple also resleeves Master cylinders and rebuilds Roadster SU carbs.

Re: Wheel cylinder rebuild kit
Thanks for all the input. Datsun Roadster Parts.com is backed up and not taking orders for awhile. Does anyone else have any ideas on a substitution piston cup for 3/4" Roadster wheel cylinders?

Re: Wheel cylinder rebuild kit
This probably is your only other prospect. But you may well be looking at $80 shipped for two 3/4 inch mini rebuild kits, P/N K 441-11
http://www.datsunroadster.com/SUB_SECTI ... /brake.htm
DRP (Datsun Roadster Parts) is taking orders again in three days based on what I'm reading on their website. Personally I'd just wait it out and save a boatload of money if all you need is the Piston cups vs DatsunRoadsters.com offering.

Re: Wheel cylinder rebuild kit
I just made an interesting discovery. The slave cylinder is 3/4". So I took the seals and compared them to the brake cylinder. The brake cylinder seal has a slightly larger hole in the middle. I took the clutch seal and put it on the brake piston. Just a tiny bit more effort to put it on. Outside of rubber seal measures the same with dial calipers.
So if and when my 3/4 brake cylinder seals fail I will get a couple slave kits or cylinders since they are inexpensive and use the seal. You don't get the rest of the stuff but you can steal from another brake kit for 510 or 1200 or reuse if yours are still good..
Of course you do this at your OWN risk. Now time for my 45 minutes of stair machine torture.

Re: Wheel cylinder rebuild kit
I am in the works on having new 3/4 inch brake cylinder made for our cars. I am still a couple months from receiving the initial sample and testing it. I am hopeful that they will be completed and available in the next 4 to 5 months.

Re: Wheel cylinder rebuild kit
Oh my! I was just wondering the same thing early this AM when researching this seal for the OP. I don't have any spares laying around so I wasn't going to suggest to the OP to go by the kit if I wasn't sure. So the thickness is the same as well? So there's no seal play on the piston when moving forward and back when in the cylinder? Not that you can see anyway.Curtis wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 11:12 am I just made an interesting discovery. I know it's not the best solution but if the pricing is right on your new product line I guess it could be used instead of the 13/16 cylinder on the early 1600s? I believe that Dann has suggested that on his site although he believes the breaking power is slightly diminished and maybe more so when stopping when in reverse.

Re: Wheel cylinder rebuild kit
I did not put it in the cylinder but the height is the same. The piston area where the seal goes is the same diameter and height as the clutch piston. Which begs the question why the clutch seal has a smaller center hole?
It looks like Brian will be our salvation soon for complete cylinders. I hope he sells kits too. The vendors only have so many and if they have and you want original then buy up before there aren't any. I bought originals 3/4" from Nissan many years ago and saved them for my second car which had 13/16.
