I went with a 2000 surround and an unpolished backing. Found metal lath, used in masonry applications, at Home Depot and painted it satin black. Makes for the look I want. Pat

The 2000 grill surround can be used with the 1500 (and 2000) grill backs only. As you can see there is no separate surround for the 1600.

Your 2000 grill looks very good and someone will certainly want the $70 1600 grill, so you will do fine with that purchase :)
Thanks for confirming JT, that's what I figured. And I reckon if I go with a 1500, I can sell the 2000 and the 1600 to pay for it...
Pjackb wrote: Mon May 31, 2021 8:15 am I personally think the 1500 grill looks the best of all 3 available and that’s why I have 2 of them
Since I’m making MrGreen as a 2000 clone I will be using a 2000 grill on it but I may still change my mind

The great thing as JT mentioned the 1500 and 2000 surrounds are interchangeable so you can just get a 1500 back grill from him and use the surround you have.

Regarding the 1600 grill , it will cost more to fix the chrome on it than to get a good one I sold my last 2 1600 grills for 400$ each
Thanks Jacques, I like all grills for different reasons, but the more I look at it, the more I'm liking that 1500 look.

And good points on interchangeability. I could switch them up depending on my mood that day!

Just for fun, I'll get a quote on plating the 1600 grill when I pick up some parts from the plater. I've been surprised at some of the pricing – some higher and some lower than I expected.

That sounds like a good look Pat. I'm not really a "Chrome or go home" guy - as Alvin calls himself. Do you have any photos of yours? Thanks

Hi Curtis, my 2000 grill is up with my car – 531 miles north, so I'm sorry I can't get you a photo.

Thanks again gentlemen.

Hi Curtis, the center section of the grill bolts to the backing (these):

Pat! Wow, that looks so good. That's definitely something to consider.

Random: last night I was watching a car show (I'm getting dangerously close to being a car guy, scary thought)... it's that show "Bitchin' Rides". They work on custom cars and were working on a grill on a corvette I think. Behind the shiny grill bits, they installed something like lath screen, similar to yours... but the used two layers slightly separated and slightly offset. The idea being that as you walk past, it changes a touch and has some 'motion'. It was actually a pretty subtle, yet cool effect.

Anyway, thanks for the pics, very inspiring.
