1968 Windshield Washer Restore...Replacement Pump?
Started checking out the windshield washer system on my recently purchased '68. Wiring was broken off of the pump motor and the reservoir nipple was cracked and leaking.
I heated up the area around the cracked nipple and was able to get the nipple to move without cracking it any further. Put the nipple where it belonged and sealed up the crack. Reservoir is good now.
The pump motor was seized. I dismantled the pump and found it full of rust. The impeller seal disintegrated when I pulled the motor out of the housing. I cleaned up the motor and reattached the wires and was able to get the impeller to spin but I couldn't get the impeller shaft to seal using electrical tape and silicone. I checked the internet for a new seal and could not find one.
Does anyone have a source for an impeller seal for the factory washer pump? Can anyone recommend a replacement pump that will sit in the same position on the reservoir as the factory pump?
PO painted everything under the hood with wrinkle black paint. I'm cleaning up parts as I go through systems. What color/finish was the washer reservoir bracket?
Thanks very much in advance...

The bracket would have been plated - the gold cad color. Can't help with the pump - perhaps someone else has located one.

you're in luck
not only do I have one, but it works!
you can have it for postage - whatever small box is - about $7 I think - and remember to pay forward in some manner if possible!
send me your address and I'll let you know when I send it
Best, Pete!

Another source for a pump. You will need to transfer the wires from your old pump.

Oops, I used this replacement on a '69. Don't know if it is the same for a '68.

Be wary when you buy pumps these days, most everyone I found had the old part number but the pump bodies have very large extrusion for the wire terminals to power the pump.
They will come like this now:
.
I grinded them down and soldered wires to the stubs.

For those in need, there are GM windshield washer pumps with similar nipple layouts. I don't know if they are all the same size, but that opens up availability. Plenty cheap through Amazon too.

Re: 1968 Windshield Washer Restore...Replacement Pump?
i know this doesn’t help Devauxmidwest since it sounds like he already found one, but I was cleaning up the motor on my washer pump today and noticed one of the nipples on it had cracked. probably easy to fix but I decided to look on a 73 240Z project car that I haven’t had time to get to and just sitting behind the garage. Turns out the washer reservoir and pump on it were in pretty good shape. Although the reservoir isn’t right and won’t fit on my 68 roadster the pump slides right into place under my original 68 reservoir and works fine. It looks a little different primarily because it is protected by a rubber cover that the motor slides in to but the fit was perfect!
