Identify carb part?

Post by johnscf »

I have looked in the parts manual on tech wiki and don’t see the part I’m trying to identify. The fuel line from the fuel pump to the front carb comes to a tee. One line goes down to the the first bowl with the float and the top continues on to the second carb where it hits a two part piece with a gasket between the two pieces from that piece, one line goes down to the second carb bowl with the float and the top continues as the return line. What is the piece with the gasket and what is it’s function?

What does it do? Can it wear out or cause problems with the carbs?

It lets fuel return to the tank via the return line to prevent vapor lock. Yes, they can go bad and cause issues. What do you have going on?

Can’t accelerate at higher speeds. Cutting out and sputtering above 3500rpm when trying to accelerate

It could be that the return valve has failed and is letting too much fuel pass. I have a couple in the garage - as most people probably do. I would suggest taking it apart and seeing what is going on. It is a simple spring. If the spring broke, it is time for a new one. If it just has a piece of trash caught in it, then clean it, get a new gasket (ebay $5) and put it back in service.

I took apart the return valve and it had nothing in it. Wasn’t sure how it should be set up or what it should have so I took apart one I had for a set of Z therapy carbs I’m going to put on my 2000 and they had a small valve and a long thin strip of brass or copper that acts like a spring. I’m convinced this could be the source for my carb problems. Anybody know a source that sells the return valve/pressure regulator? I found gaskets for it on EBay but don’t see it listed on Dean’s website or any of the other vendors.

Sounds like you are onto the issue! I think that someone on the forum is making the gaskets. I have a spare return valve. I'll message you.
