Sound deadener if you took the thicker 80mil is only 2mm thick
I would be very surprised it would make a difference

So if I understand Fatmat / Kilmat isn't worth the effort/cost?

No you misunderstood me
Soundproofing is absolutely worth it and necessary in my opinion on these old cars
What I said is 2mm will not make a big difference in carpet installation IMO even if you went with the one with mass loaded vinyl , the only thing is you may need a few longer fasteners for certain items like the consoles and seat belts

Personally I already have a new carpet kit for MrGreen so don’t need it but for the upcoming project I will definitely be considering this all in one carpet , especially the Essex plush version in a different color

Thanks, definitely misunderstood you (dipped into the Wine early apparently, LOL) Since mass backing on the back of the carpet is an option, wondering if you can specify to not install it in the center console area (under the radio / heater control console) Or worst case cut that section out. From other members experience I seem to recall they mentioned that this area is a PIA to get the carpet under short of completely removing the Console in advance. Certainly mass backing would only make it worst.

ACC Brand Carpet Compatible with 1966 to 1970 Datsun 1600, Roadster, Passenger Area (501-Black 80/20 Loop)

It was $160 with free shipping. I probably won't get around to putting it in for a few weeks.... or more.
good morning Roy

Yes, I'll fill in some details and add a pic in a few days, but the bottom line is that I returned the single piece carpet. I felt like the effort to get it installed and to make it look right would have been too much. I ordered a 3 piece set.

The single piece carpet option was not what I was expecting.
- The fore/aft length was way more than the OEM carpet. This may be a good thing for someone who wants to run carpet all the way up the firewall and the vertical wall of the package shelf. I still have the original carboard trim pieces on the firewall and vinyl on the vertical wall in the back so I would have been cutting carpet at both ends, but I would have done that.
- The width was also well over OEM. Trimming about 4 inches off both sides (into the jute padding) would have been necessary. I would have done that too.
- There were no cut-outs in this carpet. I was actually expecting this and I was ready deal with it.
- In the end, I decided that it just didn't fit around the transmission hump or the box like protrusions behind the seats like I thought it should. It would have required a lot of glue and I didn't want to dick around cutting and gluing and end up with what seemed to me was going to be a less than satisfactory result.

I ordered a 5 piece set from Factory Interiors and I received it today. It's made by the same company as the one piece (ACC). I started installing it and I can see that I made the right decision. The fit is very close and it will be easy to do the cutting that's needed (seat belt and console holes/slots, foot rest and gas pedal stop bolt cut-outs). It comes up a little short on the lower front corners of the transmission hump but it isn't really noticeable unless you push the carpet down against the hump. Otherwise the floorboard carpet covers it pretty well. I may glue a 3-4 inch strip of old carpet in the gap if the floor carpet settles down and exposes it. This is the same nylon loop carpet that is used on the one piece and I feel like it's pretty good quality. It has the same 1/2 inch jute padding as the one piece did. It's on the front two floor pieces and the center hump piece.

Here's a couple of pics of the one piece:

The ACC video was extremely educational and has motivated a purchase, while I have an empty body shell. The price for a formatted single piece carpet seems pretty reasonable too.

Thanks for the posting !!

roysuecan, I suggest that before nailing it down test fit your lower dash on it. I found that with the padding that the lower dash was tighter than I wanted.

FYI, We typically keep both red and black carpet sets in stock. They are custom made for DRP and
fit well.

Yes, they are a little more expensive than the cheap/eBay brands, but worth it.

Having installed dozens of kits in countless roadsters, I certainly don’t recommend the ACC “1-piece” kit. Nothing about

Can you link your carpet kits, or are they not listed? I had no luck finding them??
