Square grommet on glove box door
I remember reading some posts about the square grommet on the glove box door support that someone was looking for (me too).
Someone said they would look at 3D printing some but I can't find the thread. Has any progress been made on it yet? Where is the thread?
Peace,
Pat

Re: Square grommet on glove box door
I made a 3D file but would have to see if it is usable by someone with a 3D printer. I got a used one for now.
66 stroker, almost done.

Pat, I remember seeing something about that too... it's gotta be here somewhere.Curtis wrote: Thu Mar 18, 2021 7:53 pm I made a 3D file but would have to see if it is usable by someone with a 3D printer. I got a used one for now.
Curtis, if it's no trouble to email that file, I can forward it to a friend for review and ask if they'd be willing to run a few.
I think (hope!) I also have my original grommet. I remember it being in decent condition... I will post a photo here if I find it while working through the Ice Cooler O' Parts...

Thanks,
Peter

Probably disappeared because it was a wanted post. I think Solex68 replied about printing it.

Contact Ross @ Sports Imports. He has a warehouse full of new rubber parts. If he does not have new he can fab or source a quality replacement.

Re: Square grommet on glove box door
Ross is where I got my used one. He had a hard time getting it out unbroken, wasted a half hour on it for me. It is not rubber but a rectangular plastic piece.garth wrote: Fri Mar 19, 2021 10:10 pm Contact Ross @ Sports Imports. He has a warehouse full of new rubber parts. Re: Square grommet on glove box door
Could you post the 3D file somewhere Curtis? (can be emailed if that's preferred)
My printer is currently idle; I can take a stab at printing it (not really set up for mass production, but would be interesting nonetheless)

Re: Square grommet on glove box door
We really need to get this one made. I'll have to look at my file and if it can be used at all. Used ones kind of suck.

Re: Square grommet on glove box door
Went out and checked mine: it was already cracked on a corner so I pulled it out to measure/print.
This little guy, right?

Looked at CPM, and I saw two different part numbers for early vs. late dashes. Mine came off a late dash, and it seems to be made out of a semi-flex type rubbery plastic. I'm going to print up some test versions (might need to improvise a clip for the back if the "barb" edge isn't enough).
Curtis, is your 3d/measurement from early or late?

Re: Square grommet on glove box door
A quick first pass at it:

In photos it doesn't look exactly the same size as the original, but that's mostly due to the OG being cracked/bent. Side by side they feel the same (should be roughly within 0.1mm). I added some gaps in the barb/skirt on the back to let it flex a little when inserting (this was rando plastic I already had loaded in my printer; wouldn't use it for final print). I'm planning on going back in and tweaking it a little from "OEM" dimensions to make the print path a little cleaner and let the barbs flex a little more. Otherr subtle changes: turned some of the edge relief from a round fillet to a chamfer-- this is hidden normally, didn't think perfect OEM match was something worth chasing.
Test fit: it's a hair too tight/rigid to fit. Will tweak and retry.
Also: the crap filament also snapped 2/3 through the print, so that didn't help (resumed ever so slightly off).
