OEM Seat Belt Photos Early and Late

Post by Curtis »

Geez, the internet can be such a wasteland. A search for seat belt photos came empty. A search on here didn't turn up much that is useful for comparisons.

So anyone that can post up photos so I/we can compare the differences would be appreciated. Buckles, anchors and adjusters. Thanks.

The 1500 is completely different. The early 1600 lap belts and the later 1600/2000 lap belts are visually the same. The difference is that they have hooks inside the stitched loop for connecting the shoulder harness. I don't have pictures handy.

I was under the impression that the 66-67 and the 67.5-70 had different size and appearance buckles. I have two lap belts and some other straps. The lap belts have the slot for the shoulder belt and I have 3 different shaped anchor clips.

I just looked through all the owner's manuals and seat belts are not even mentioned until 67.5.

Yes, they had them. For some reason they don't merit mention in the manuals. Some of the 1500 jump seats even had them. I saw it in the Japanese brochure. But I still need photos.

The reason they didn't mention the seatbelts in the pre-67.5 manuals, is because everyone was going to die anyway due to the shiny chrome interior...

I don't have any proof, but I'm pretty sure that's the reason...

How did anyone survive 1960s chrome?

Sorry Curtis, I should know better... it's not the first time I've been told to stay focused... :smt031

I don't know if this will help, but here are a bunch of photos of the original belts and hardware from my 1967.5 1600.

I haven't even opened this box since I put them in there when I got the car 18 months ago.

They're in poor condition, mostly beyond repair. So about a year ago I bought a really nice set of 68 belts (as per the tag). Unfortunately those are up with my car, so I don't have those to compare with these originals. But I will do that when I go back up at the end of this month.

I believe this to be a complete set... with luggage straps... and I had forgotten about the rear seatbelt (lower right)!

If you'd like to see any additional images or markings, just let me know.

And... does anyone know what the spring is for? (I know it's not for the belts)

Thanks,
Peter

Looks like there is an aftermarket mixed in. Part of it matches what I have. I bought a set of luggage straps before I found out they don't belong on my car.

Thanks.

You bet Curtis...

Out of curiosity, which component(s) do you think may be aftermarket?

Thanks!
