Caliper restoration
Has anyone got the correct green for painting the calipers?

They were green? Not just raw castings?

Re: Caliper restoration
This is what we did on Project Unicorn-- the gray green was a Duplicolor cast iron color-- I can get you the paint code:

Re: Caliper restoration
Looks nice! I have a set of calipers that were NOS but a bit unloved. They were green body and caliper housing. I don't know what was original. Too many years have passed.

Re: Caliper restoration
Due to the lack of rust on mine I assumed that they were plated and that the plating had dulled.

Re: Caliper restoration
They were plated, not painted. Rattle can paint and dot 3/4 brake fluid is a poor combination.

Re: Caliper restoration
Agree with JT on this one. DOT5 silicone would be fine, though.

Re: Caliper restoration
When the brakes get bled, or certainly if rebuilding a worn out cylinder that may or may not seal, or one of the 4 fluid joints weeps a little, or one cylinder starts leaking later on, some brake fluid inevitably gets on the caliper casting.
I'd suggest plating or thin powder coat, far, far more durable than rattle can. We have done them both ways.
If the cylinders are new like Michael's, its less of an issue, just get the brake fluid off the paint quickly or it will lift the paint.

Or if you use Silicone brake fluid, it won't be an issue either...

Re: Caliper restoration
And a bigger plus for the silicone is that it doesn't absorb water, and the greatest plus of all is the pretty color!!!

Hi Guys,
Michael, that looks so awesome!
So, I’m also smack in the middle of restoring my original calipers and lines, but have new piston assemblies. 3 Green/grey, 1 shiny.
Were the calipers originally painted with the same green as the cylinder assemblies here?

And, is this the color you're referring to by chance? Coincidentally, I bought this a few days ago, as recommended by Mike Y.

I do like this old school green/grey a lot, but, I'm also half-thinking to paint the calipers the Nissan Blue like the engine, has anyone done that?... hmmm...
Thanks,
Peter
