Re: 1967 1/2 console
From what I understand none of the interior trim in a 67½ is shiny chrome. Much of mine is from 66 and 67 cars and I restored mine with aluminum paint.

It should be a frost3d finish on the 67.5

Re: 1967 1/2 console
Hey Joe here are some pictures to help
The first one on the left is a 67.5 I only cleaned it with degreaser and a 00 steel wool to remove surface oxidation and then polished it lightly by hand with metal polish to retain some patina and original look ( last picture is before )
The middle one was painted using Rustoleum bright metallic Silver
The last one on the right is from my 67 and was wet sanded and polished to a mirror finish
The varying thickness on the lids was me trying different paddings for the restoration

Re: 1967 1/2 console
Sad, but true... it must be if the DOT says so.
I've actually just "completed" my console restoration. But it's kind of a work in progress.
My understanding is that the 67.5 should have the "Glare Reduced Finish" (dull/satin silver) everywhere except for the "lip of the scoop fascia thing" which should be shiny chrome.
Photo shows where I am currently. And I will be posting how I got to this point soon, I hope.
The one thing NOT TO DO is send the ashtray cover to get stripped and replated... I learned that the hard way.
More later, but just wanted to caution you about that.

Re: 1967 1/2 console
Peter, that looks fantastic! Yes, the edge was left Chrome - I am sure that the safety folks were having seizures over that since on the later 67.5 cars they even blacked out the dull silver center of the speedo and tach needles.

What paint did you use ?
I'm redoing all the interior trims and potentially redoing the the console to match and testing some paints
Left is Rustoleum Dull Alluminun and on the right Eastwood Silver CAD

Hi Jacques, sorry for the delay. There are actually two paints there.Pjackb wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 2:47 pmLooks Greatiloveredmeat wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 2:34 pm

What paint did you use ?
The fascia molding scoopy part was painted with a ceramic paint after the platers finally realized that they could NOT do a dull/satin finish – and ruining my original slider in the process. They have a nice silvery ceramic that is very durable... that's my biggest concern with simply spray painting the slider.
I painted the slider with Krylon Dull Aluminum.
Neither of these truly match the original slider finish, in my opinion, and so I do think it comes down to personal preference. For example I like a 'whiter' silver.
I am currently experimenting with a very promising high heat ceramic paint that you cure with heat, and seems a bit more durable. I'll post that later.
I prefer your Rustoleum color, and all of your consoles look awesome!
Really beautiful work.

Re: 1967 1/2 console
Could you elaborate on that ? did the blasting ruin it or something they did when trying to recreate the satin finish?
I ask because looking at you results I may want to paint the 67.5 now
If it's the Duplicolor/VHT High heat ceramic paint it's good but not much more resistant to scratches than their wheel paints , if you want more resistance get a 2K satin clear coat from Eastwood or you local paint store that's the best alternative IMOiloveredmeat wrote: Tue Feb 09, 2021 3:06 pm They have a nice silvery ceramic that is very durable... that's my biggest concern with simply spray painting the slider.

I was leaning with the Eastwood but every person I've showed this to selected the Rustoleum

Re: 1967 1/2 console
Satin silver is the look for 67.5
I started with a fairly pitted and rusty console like Pjackb and sanded and smoothed as much as possible and painted with a satin silver spray that I had in my pile o cans in the garage... can't find it now
Disassembled bits for cleaning:

After much sanding with various grades and some steel wool for the corners, still couldn't remove all the deep pitting, laid down a few coats:

Reassembled

Missing the lock escutcheon... if anyone has one they want to sell, hit me up
Also had the interior door handles and the door strikers powdercoated with a similar look.
