Early 1600 Voltage Reg

Post by cbez »

Acquired project and not 100% sure how it's all going back together.

I know the early 1600s had a different regulator.

Image

Does anyone have a pic of the early regulator installed? Or just a pic of the early regulator in general. I know they are hard/impossible to find.

Do the harness leads all go to the regulator? They don't seem long enough to go to the alternator like in the 66-67 wiring diagram.

Alternate plan would be a solid state swap...

The early regulator has the plug that is the mate to the plug on the alternator in the photo - not the later rectangular 6 prong unit.

Hey Curtis,

64 should still be a positive ground setup right?

I assume the early 66 'square plug' is different from the 1500 regulator and the later 66-67 regulators.

But interestingly it does look like my harness would fit that regulator style.

64 is positive ground. Alternator does not use a plug. You can see the alternator wires in 2 of the pictures.

So I wonder if early 66 is an in between style with the external terminals connecting to the harness but a plug to the alternator 🤔🤔 just struggling to find any pics

yeah you can see how the harness changes in yours - mine is #2085.

I'm assuming mine is stock with minimal tomfoolery...

You cannot compare 64 and 66, completely different. The whole car wiring is different.

Yeah, I'm only talking about the harness coming up to the regulator. Mine has the big white B wire, black wire, and b&w wire with endings like they go to terminals rather than a plug.

ah I see the r&w that I missed in your original pic. so they relocated that to the fuse box on 66s.

I am still at a loss on my early '66 setup.
