Do you know of a hibernating /dormant Datsun?
I am new to Datsun Roadsters, not the old car attachment issues. This weekend I did get to confirm an acquittance was a very long term owner of a 1969, 1600 roadster. Going on 30+ years, the last 20 in status. Purchased while in High School, and driven as a learning tool for the world of cars.
His ability to keep it running, to a point, is best summed up by the two head gaskets on the car to make up for other realities. There might be some rust in the trunk, ok lots, but the fenders are still on the car. The tell he is still hooked was how fast the conversation evolved to an engine swap to get it back on the road. He is now in a position to afford what ever he wants, if he can get over paying to get it done.
The brand new truck and trailer with the Cayman tell me he now, he just wants to arrive and drive. Are you aware of any cars that the owners need a push?
David

Being that you're in Redlands I would hit Kevin at KRD Roadster in Riverside and see what magic he can do to that 69jr02518 wrote: Tue Jan 19, 2021 10:30 am I am new to Datsun Roadsters, not the old car attachment issues. I need a push to get the body touch up done so I can paint it - I hate body work.
Bought a Miata to keep the drive alive while the roadster is convalescing.

Hope I don't lose my roadster man card.

Mine, fits the category, but I do get to wrench on it every so often. I have had Roadsters for 18 years and have never driven my current project that is 15 years in. I have shelves of parts, have given 2 cars and many parts away including my driver 67 prior to one of my Iraq deployments. I drove a 510 at 16 until I left for Germany and took it with me in the mid 80's. Drove the 510 around Germany and a ski trip to Austria. Sold it (regrettably) in the early 90's at Ft. Gordon, GA and started on the Roadster as my "adult" car. It has definitely sat dormant for YEARS at a time...time and health willing this car will be on the road!

Re: Do you know of a hibernating /dormant Datsun?
Rust, better said rust avoidance, helps me stay away from body work and paint. Living in a more arid clement does help, that and storing my cars inside is a privilege that I pay for monthly. That and I embrace patina, a polished 20 footer keeps people shaking their heads. I would rather be driving than detailing.
I do pay for it at acquisition, the interiors are usually cooked. But faded beats rusty every day. Oil leaks, I think they are universal to all of these cars.
