Re: Cant remove starter
Less than $60 for a new starter on ebay. Going to pick up a spare and get rid of some of these original ones I have.

Re: Cant remove starter
To remove the starter you have to "open the door". Cut out the diagonal brace part just to the left of the starter. Then it comes out through the wheel well.

Mine is a '67. When I went to pick it up when I first bought it in 1999 the owner was just welding the door closed. He had cut along the top and bent it out, so that he could get the starter out and get it rebuilt. I cut it completely out and made a replacement that unscrews for removal.

Re: Cant remove starter
68-70 don't need the door since they changed the area where on the early cars you have to remove the triangle. Datsun issued a service bulletin detailing to cut out the triangle and rivet it back in to change the starter. The 68-70 cars are more open in the area with boxed sheet metal support that slopes up higher.

Here are a couple photos I borrowed from someone's web page. You can see how the later cars differ.
