Greg Burrows is a troublemaker

Post by theunz »

That’s right, Greg is causing me to do a lot of extra work!

I recently posted some pictures of my car on the “where did you drive this weekend” thread. Greg responded, and asked if I had ever considered painting my brake drums black, as he suggested that they may better match the fronts that way.
Well, I hadn’t, but now he made me think (first bit of trouble). So today I grabbed one of my spare drums, blasted it clean, and painted it black (second bit of trouble). And then, just because good enough.. just isn’t, I ground the black off all the fins...ALL 60 of them! (more Burrows trouble!)

So,...Thanks a lot Greg.....it really does look better :D
Oh yea, since I experimented on a drum with a broken fin I get to do two more
P.S. you can’t really see the fins, so if anyone ever sees my car, please get down on your hands and knees and look closely so all my work wasn’t for naught

Happy to be that kind of trouble Maker! I LOVE IT! Well worth the effort, and now you're nearly done  . The difference is really apparent. Those are great wheels, and now the spokes stand out, beautiful! I'm glad you took it in the spirit given (which I knew you would of course) and that it's worked out so well!

P.s. I keep looking at it, and it makes the car appear more muscular in the back now, more balanced. When you do the two new ones, you might try using a grease pen on the fins so the paint doesn't stick there... may make it easier to clean up the fins (?). They look great.

When SRL311-12627 was still around, pre-1979 demise to a mover’s inattention, it ran with blackout drums. Definitely the way to go, with spoked alloys.

In a concession to the "modern sporty cars" I painted my calipers and front wheel cylinders red. I have a pair of aluminum drums that I am going to get bead blasted and paint them red to match.

Yes, Greg is a troublemaker and is his own worst enemy. If you follow in his footsteps you will NEVER be done. He will take you down the road of endless work and mods. I have resisted his temptations so far on my own car. Well mostly anyway... I did call the guy that does his head work.

No, no, I feel the vortex sucking me in! Greg, pull me out.

Looked better silver. At least you didn't paint the wheels black. there is nothing worse than black wheels on any car.
Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!

But Curtis, where is the fun in being done! I like Greg’s M.O....get it running (reliably) and then have fun making improvements! If you ever get completely finished you’ll have to drag home another project and start all over again. Hmmm...that doesn’t sound so bad either🤔 Now how many brownie points have I earned? WHAT, NEGATIVE HOW MANY?? Somebody throw me a rope..

The fun is driving around with your wife who won't divorce you for dragging home something else. She has tolerated two cars in the garage one of which has been there since 2001 in-op. In truth I don't really like working on them.
