Tips on removing leaf springs from rear shackles?

Post by Egz »

I got them disconnected from the front bolts, but the rears are fighting me.

The nuts came off, and the outside plate is off, but I can't seem to get them to slide off. Is there a technique I need to use to get them to cooperate?

Thanks

Spray with penetrant, put the nuts back on lightly and then apply equal pressure (either via a clamps or hammer) to both bolts. If I remember correctly, they need to come out parallel since they are one piece.

Might not hurt to just remove the entire shackle assembly with the leaf. Otherwise, two-by-four and a hammer will get the fasteners off.

Okay, got the shackle removed from the frame. Was worried about those bolts, but only one snapped, and that was the one with a nut.

Still doesn't want to release, so I guess I'll keep on whacking it.

Can you swivel it back and forth while trying to push it out?
