Reproduction Gas Tank in the works UPDATE!
Back in early November Moparpro.com mentioned on the Roadster Facebook page that they were considering doing a Reproduction Roadster Gas Tank. I followed up today with them and they have confirmed it's going to happen. Pretty short/vague response, (My Question: Is the Tank in the works? Response: "yes it is we are making them") I don't think they want to be pinned down to when and how much. BUT it looks like it will happen!. Judging from the prices of there other repo Gas Tanks that they have available I suspect the price will be cheaper than sending your rust bucket out to Gas Tank-Renu and other such services. The feedback from the Facebook crowd was whether Mopar Pro could go with the optional larger gas tank. I didn't know this existed, but apparently a tank which was 11.5? gallons was available as an option??? Time will tell if they go with the standard 9.5 gallon tank or bump it up.

An extra two gallons would be nice.

Re: Reproduction Gas Tank in the works
The stock capacity is 9.5? I found measurements at one point that worked out to about 12 gallons and have been using that as a baseline in a tank search.

My bad, UK / USA Gallon variation. USA = 11.4. So the optional tank must have been 13+ gallons?damarble wrote: Wed Dec 30, 2020 6:16 pm The stock capacity is 9.5? I found measurements at one point that worked out to about 12 gallons and have been using that as a baseline in a tank search.

Looks like we'll need a source for new straps with the larger tank.

Re: Reproduction Gas Tank in the works
Personally, I don’t think the larger tank would be a great idea for 95% of owners. You’re basically trading ground clearance, forever, to gain an extra hour on the freeway on a five or six hour drive? How often are most of us using our cars that way?Practically speaking, for weekend drivers, a bigger tank would simply store older gas in a tank for several weeks/months longer. This is a car that gets 25-30mpg, not 15; I don’t think losing ground clearance for a bigger tank on a street car is a plus.

Re: Reproduction Gas Tank in the works
I agree with John on the size of the tank other than Turbo Ted with his long trips I don't see any benefits unless you're doing long distance racing
Furthermore I have to question the viability when one can get an aluminum tank done for fairly cheap
Below are 2 examples of aluminum tanks that were done by a couple friends for their swaps and both were less than 500$ including EFI fuel pump , I've also talked to Jeff Spotswood in Florida and he gave me the contact to where his was done for his EFI conversion and it was around $400

$400 for an aluminum EFI tank?
Holy crap, I spent $500 converting my stock tank to EFI!

That's probably just the tank; not the fuel pump and sending unit.

Re: Reproduction Gas Tank in the works
I wonder how it does in crash testing because around the weld alloy becomes brittle and will crack easy ...it's why they rivet planes

Re: Reproduction Gas Tank in the works
Given where the tank resides on a roadster, I'd think in a crash, aluminum weld embrittlement would be among the least of my worries.

Re: Reproduction Gas Tank in the works
So is the Moparpro early or late tank and can you put a late tank in an early roadster? A nice stainless tank please maybe depending on cost. Although with a new repro that is zinc coated on the inside who cares.
