Poll Has 311s.org run it course?

Post by S Allen »

So, I guess we have some disgruntled folks among us. I want to do this poll to gauge if this is worth it any more. So, please answer and comments both negative and positive are invited,

I have no idea what anyone could be disgruntled about? There is no better source of info on these cars and no better group of people who contribute on a regular basis. I would be deeply saddened if this resource went away.

I bought another car recently and have ventured onto forums dedicated to that car model. It’s a complete shitshow with a younger crowd that rarely has any idea how to provide decent advice or even be helpful in the smallest ways. 311s.org is a repository of sacred information and is heaven compared to so many other online gathering places.

I hope others feel the same way.

Steve,
My comments are in the 'I'm out' thread.
Take it for what it's worth, but, I'm guessing the site should be good for a few more years.....my expectation at least...

First off the site is very useful and must stay! One thing that you Do Not see on this site is filthy, unnecessary language. I just left a Canadian 510 site for good because it is evidently just fine to drop all kinds of filthy language there. This site and Steve's efforts to keep it up and running are outstanding, bar none!

This site and the people on it have been a great recourse for me and my 70 roadster. Thanks to all of you.

There nothing like 311s. I hate Facebook... you'll just disappear there. I'll be here as long as it exists.

Take it from a guy that got frustrated and "left" only to come back again. This site you have created is mecca for anything Datsun Roadster. Whenever I meet a new or prospective owner, 311s.org is where I tell them to go. I've mentioned it in person and in the media.

So. yes, this site is worth it. I'm surprised that you would even think twice about it. You can't please everyone. Those that benefit far outweigh the "hurt internet feelings" of a few. Whether it be from a a squabble between members, or politics, etc...non of that matters as this site is critical for the car's survival.

Suggestion: Get rid of the non-roadster related sections. IMHO it will be less stressful for you to moderate, and keep the site true to what it's all about: Roadsters.

Fixing them. Restoring them. Upgrading them. Enjoying them and their owners.

As other have said this site is invaluable for the wealth of knowledge available and quality of individuals on it

Having been and still being part of many different forums for other models I can honestly say this is the most civil and helpful site by mile

I’ve read many post that on others sites would have turn to condescending and insulting response but not here , people will take the time to give good advice even if/when the answer should be obvious

I use FB a lot but 311s is and will continue to be the reference

Of course this site is useful. Would not want to see any bomb throwers shut it down.
As for the other threads, the Stay at Home thread has relevant info for being able to have a car hobby at all. Don’t read the other non Datsun threads if it is “ too political”. I don’t see that it is.
The car threads are generally helpful , polite. Even the swap vs non swap discussion is cordial. I do not see any “ condescension”.
Don’t let it bother you. If the site went away, you would REALLY hear some whining.

Thanks for the support. I am not thinking about pulling the plug any time soon. I still enjoy keeping the site going. I will consider removing the non-roadster related section as it can tend to be a distraction. I just now locked the "Stay At Home" thread as it was getting out of control and banned someone for what I believe is the 5th time since we have been in existence. I don't enjoy doing that but I find it hard to believe the person will be missed. We are all a bunch of prima donnas from their perspective anyways.

Sad to see a locked Stay at Home thread. A out of control pandemic needs help from ALL sectors. Someone could be helped here with the info. Sorry it is an “inconvenient truth” for some but that is the nature of public health outreach. We need more info, not less. There will be no Solvang etc without an improvement, so I say hammer the message. But I am in the minority, I see.

I haven't even turned a wrench yet on my 1967 that's been garaged for 40 years. Yet I have bookmarked many, MANY threads that will be of tremendous help when that day comes next year. So much so that a very skeptical and moderately motivated 62 year old with average mechanical aptitude has been put at ease for the most part by the information and help I know I will receive here. Carry on 311s!

Thank you Steve.

I get that people need or desire an outlet to voice their feelings on whatever non-roadster topic going on.

IMHO 311s.org is not, and should not be that forum.

Places like Reddit (still not 100% sure what that is) and Facebook are around for that.

Keep it simple.

I agree. In my no so humble opinion, the thread about stay at home was seething with politics. I have fun with politics in Facebook. I come here for Roadsters. Some of the non-roadster related stuff is fun and interesting, so I would vote to keep it.
